Important:
The game seems to struggle with web exports. For some reason a lot of the same item will generate instead of the normal and intended variety. The web file is the only one behaving this way, its very odd, as it wasn't like this before, and now all the game's versions behave like this. The exe and x86_64 files work just fine.

Controls:

  • WASD to move
  • E to pick items up when standing on top of them, and to drop them
  • LMB to throw
  • S+E to drop item when standing over another item

Additional Game Info:

  • You should stock up in the store every station
  • Some cargo can blow you up
  • You can't pick up corrupted passengers while they're carrying items
  • Throwing non-corrupted passengers into the furnace or onto the rails reduces your pay for the next station. Sparing corrupted passengers rewards you at the next station.
  • The game is supposed to be challenging and frantic, as it's not that fun if you master it right away.

About:

You're a prisoner on the Frantic Express serving quite the unique death sentence. You need to fuel a train efficiently enough to escape your warden. Your warden is a telepathic monster.

You're not alone on this journey, as passengers will board on every station. You'll soon find out that they are... easily influenced.

Note:

There are things I wanted to change before the game jam end but didn't quite have the time to. You'll notice that the warden(the monster) is actually quite chopped in all the wrong ways, and that... wasn't intentional. The train cabin is also absolutely full of visual wonk as I didn't have time to draw the sprite again completely at a different scale, so I had to shrink it down.

Voting period edit:

Fixed a bug where the player would get a payment penalty for incinerating corrupted passengers. This should be in accordance with game jam rules, as this was only a simple bug fix.

hey, i like the pixel art style! especially the warden design! it's cute!

as i play the first thing i did was accidentally walk into the furnace thing... then i have a hard time throwing the bags into the furnace, the bag just hit the wall and fall down to the ground. is it meant to be like that?

i figure it out that i have to stand a bit far away from the furnace to throw the item right into the furnace. but i never make the train fast enough to outrun the warden tho.

maybe if we can throw using the mouse click, it would be easier

I did it this way because I plan on adding couch co-op, but I always planned on making the mouse usable in singleplayer! Since you commented this, I think I know what I'll work on today if given the time. Thank you sincerely for the feedback.

i see, yes with another player it would be faster and more fun! and the warden doesn't look choppy at all, it looks good!

Yeah, Ikr? We'll see if I'll have time for co-op before the voting period. Currently working on trajectory lines as I just enabled the mouse input for one player
